Service Dogs are highly trained to perform tasks that directly assist a person with a disability. Because of this, they are protected under the ADA and allowed to accompany their handler in public spaces.

While today is full of fun, food, and fireworks, it can be overwhelming—or even dangerous—for our four-legged friends. Here are a few important safety tips to help keep your dog calm and secure during the celebrations:

1. Keep Dogs Indoors During Fireworks
Even the most confident dogs can be startled by loud noises. Set up a cozy, quiet space inside where your pup feels safe. Use white noise, calming music, or the TV to help muffle sounds from outside.

2. Update ID Tags and Microchips
July 4th is one of the top days for lost dogs. Make sure your dog is wearing a collar with up-to-date ID tags, and double-check that their microchip information is current—just in case.

3. Avoid Fireworks and Sparklers Near Pets
Not only can they be scary, but fireworks can also be dangerous. Keep dogs away from any open flames, fireworks, or sparklers to prevent burns or accidents.

Levi had been banned from three different groomers due to fear-based behaviors, and his owners were feeling out of options. Let’s talk about owner accountability in Dog Training.

Training a dog isn’t a one-time event; it’s a lifelong commitment. When you invest time and effort into training your dog, it’s not just about getting them to follow commands—it’s about maintaining that progress through consistent practice and positive reinforcement.

As a dog owner, accountability means continuing to nurture the behaviors you’ve worked so hard to instill. It’s not about “magically” expecting your dog to remember everything perfectly without putting in the effort to maintain those behaviors over time.

These are a few things that I like to do with my pups:

✅ Reinforce training daily(Having my dogs sit before going outside, having my dogs place while I eat dinner)
✅ Keep practicing commands in different environments (Practicing our commands while we visit family at their home or having my dogs hold a down stay while I brush my horse Dixie)
✅ Use rewards to motivate and encourage( I always tell people hey would you work for free? No, and your dog is not going to either. That is why even with my own pups I still reward them with treats and their toys)
✅ Stay patient and consistent

Yesterday we had a great hike and training session with Simba! Simba is here for our off-leash program and will be going home next week. On our hike we ran into Geese and bikers and not once did Simba try to run after either of these real like distractions. We are so proud of Simba’s progress.
